Anastasia Beverly Hills – Liquid Lipsticks Review & Swatches

The matte lip trend has exploded the last few years, which I’m totally on board on. When the trend first came out I wasn’t that interested, but once I tried one I loved how they looked, and since then I’ve been loving them. Some popular, (also cruelty free) matte liquid lipsticks have to be the popular “Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks”. I feel like all the beauty gurus on social media all have at least one shade of these lippies, so I was super intrigued to try these out, and see if they lived up to the hype. Now I usually don’t review high-end products, but these were send to me as PR. I was fortunate enough to get that chance, and I know a lot of you do buy high-end beauty as well as drugstore, and some may just be interested in reading this review anyways. So let’s go ahead;

Price: These liquid lipsticks retails for 220 DKK/20 USD. Sephora US are having a sale at the moment, so you can get them for just 12$.

Packaging: I love the packaging! They look super sleek and sophisticated, and has these cute, gold details on the top. They look pricy, and luxurious who doesn’t love that? I also like that they put the brand name and logo on the tube as well. The applicator is a traditional doe-foot applicator, but with a flat tip, which makes it easier to achieve a precise application. The tube is see-through so you’re able to see the shade, which is very similar to what you’ll get once it’s swatched.

Formula: It’s an extremely pigmented formula. All I needed was one swipe, and I had full on pigment! The formula isn’t too thick or too thin. It’s very matte, but doesn’t dry your lips. Don’t get me wrong it’s not moisturizing, but it won’t make your lips any dryer than they were to begin with. But make sure to exfoliate you lips, or else the extreme, matte formula will enhance any dry/patchiness.

They’re really longlasting as well! You guys you have no idea; I was scrubbing my arm so hard to get the swatches off. First I tried just using water, they didn’t come off. Then I tried baby wipes, they wouldn’t come off. The I finally used an oil, and even with the oil it wasn’t coming off easily. I had to go over with an oil twice. Once you put these liquid lipsticks on, they’re not going to budge! Whether it’s on your arm or the lips.

ABH has 35 shades in total. “Lovely” is a beautiful pinky, rosy, mauve shade. “Nude” is well.. a straight up beige, nude, but with a slight peachy undertone.

My thoughts: Honestly I get the hype! I do. They’re super pigmented, and last forever on your lips without drying them out. I do have to say the shades didn’t suit my skintone (NC30) at all. The nude made me look like a pasty, washed out piggy, I hated it. I think for lighter girl, this would be the perfect, everyday nude. The lovely shade I’ve seen on other girls, which looked gorgeous. But for personal preference, it’s not for me. These shades weren’t for me, but I do have my eye on some of their other beautiful shades. The last con I have is, that the lipsticks don’t layer well. I mean you don’t really need it, since you get the highest coverage with one layer, but if you want to reapply I do suggest removing it first, and then applying. Or else I find them to crumble a bit, in the center of the mouth.

  1. Yes everyone seems to love these lipsticks! I have yet to try them since I don’t think I’d ever want to buy a high end lipstick without having tried it out myself first. Shades never look the same on me as they do in swatches or pictures online lol. So frustrating. These lipsticks sound wonderful though. I think the colour “Lovely” is so pretty. It’s nice that they don’t dry out your lips too. That’s a pet peeve with liquid lipsticks!

    1. I wouldn’t want to buy a high end lipstick without trying it either, unless they were amazing reviews on it 🙂 I actually get annoyed when the lipsticks look completly different on my lips, it’s the worst 😦 It happens to me too often! Lovely is definitely my fave out of the two ❤ I'm happy I wasn't let down by these ❤

      1. Yeah exactly, I’d need a lot of reassurance haha. And it’s totally the worst when lipsticks look different on compared to the tube or swatch. I’m glad these ones worked out for you!!

  2. The shades are beautiful I thought the colours would have suited you, but I know sometimes nudes. An. E tricky with medium complexions. I really want to try these lippy , even the brand itself as I don’t any of her products

    1. Nudes are so tricky! It all depends on our skintone. I think ABH has so many tempting products out there, especially the Modern Renaisance and Subculture are looking really good to me ❤ Thanks for stopping by, Babe ❤

  3. I bought some mini ABH liquid lipsticks awhile ago to try the formula and loved it. Unfortunately, some of them didn’t suit me either which is a downfall of having to buy online without testing first. Great review.

  4. Buying minis is actually a really great idea 😀 It’s a great way to find out if a product is worth your coins hahaha. I don’t have much to complain about over the formula, as I really like them 🙂 But yeah finding out a shade doesen’t suit you, is such a bummer :/ Thank you for reading ❤

    1. Oh they don’t have these in your Sephora? I’m actually quite surprised to hear that, since I thought they were in all Sephoras worldwide :/ The shades are truly beautiful, so it was unfortunate they didn’t suit me. Thank you for reading ❤

  5. Oh these shades are just stunning! I agree with you on the formula, and if I’m not careful, it can crumble a bit, but I love mine in the shade Spicy. The shade is so bright and stunning, I’m desperate to try some of their more nude shades. This post makes me want to pick up 10 more hahah 🙂 xx

    1. Yeah the crumbling is a bit unfortunate :/ But the great thing is that I don’t feel the need to layer them, which is where they crumble if I do. I’ve seen photos of some girl wearing Spicy and it looks beautiful on them, I just think it’s a bit bold for me hahaha. I would love to try their Ashton shade ❤

    1. When swatched, yes! But on my lips, not so much hahaha. I think the shades would look beautiful on people how are lighter than NC30 🙂 If you ever wanna splurge on a liquid lippie, I can highly recommend these ❤ They have some beautiful shades to chose from.

  6. I have to disagree with you on this one! I absolutely hate the formula, and I feel like it is too drying and not too long after I apply it, it starts to cake up and get flakey all over my lips! I wrote my own review on ABH liquid lipsticks too on my blog, you should check it out! But overall, still a good post, and pictures!

    1. I appreciate when people have a different view than me 🙂 They can feel a bit drying, but I haven’t experience the lipstick caking or flaking :/ But thank you for sharing your experience 🙂 I think I might have missed that post, I’ll go and read it 🙂

      1. Lol it just sucks though because I absolutely LOVE the shade, but if I try to wear it I end up sneaking away to the bathroom to wash it off because it just becomes unbearably flakey and dry lol
