The matte lip trend has exploded the last few years, which I’m totally on board on. When the trend first came out I wasn’t that interested, but once I tried one I loved how they looked, and since then I’ve been loving them. Some popular, (also cruelty free) matte liquid lipsticks have to be the popular “Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks”. I feel like all the beauty gurus on social media all have at least one shade of these lippies, so I was super intrigued to try these out, and see if they lived up to the hype. Now I usually don’t review high-end products, but these were send to me as PR. I was fortunate enough to get that chance, and I know a lot of you do buy high-end beauty as well as drugstore, and some may just be interested in reading this review anyways. So let’s go ahead;
Packaging: I love the packaging! They look super sleek and sophisticated, and has these cute, gold details on the top. They look pricy, and luxurious who doesn’t love that? I also like that they put the brand name and logo on the tube as well. The applicator is a traditional doe-foot applicator, but with a flat tip, which makes it easier to achieve a precise application. The tube is see-through so you’re able to see the shade, which is very similar to what you’ll get once it’s swatched.
Formula: It’s an extremely pigmented formula. All I needed was one swipe, and I had full on pigment! The formula isn’t too thick or too thin. It’s very matte, but doesn’t dry your lips. Don’t get me wrong it’s not moisturizing, but it won’t make your lips any dryer than they were to begin with. But make sure to exfoliate you lips, or else the extreme, matte formula will enhance any dry/patchiness.
They’re really longlasting as well! You guys you have no idea; I was scrubbing my arm so hard to get the swatches off. First I tried just using water, they didn’t come off. Then I tried baby wipes, they wouldn’t come off. The I finally used an oil, and even with the oil it wasn’t coming off easily. I had to go over with an oil twice. Once you put these liquid lipsticks on, they’re not going to budge! Whether it’s on your arm or the lips.
My thoughts: Honestly I get the hype! I do. They’re super pigmented, and last forever on your lips without drying them out. I do have to say the shades didn’t suit my skintone (NC30) at all. The nude made me look like a pasty, washed out piggy, I hated it. I think for lighter girl, this would be the perfect, everyday nude. The lovely shade I’ve seen on other girls, which looked gorgeous. But for personal preference, it’s not for me. These shades weren’t for me, but I do have my eye on some of their other beautiful shades. The last con I have is, that the lipsticks don’t layer well. I mean you don’t really need it, since you get the highest coverage with one layer, but if you want to reapply I do suggest removing it first, and then applying. Or else I find them to crumble a bit, in the center of the mouth.
